The O-1 is a nonimmigrant visa for individuals who can demonstrate extraordinary ability in their field — sciences, business, education, athletics, or the arts — and who are coming to the U.S. to continue that work.
Unlike many other work visas, there's no lottery and no hard cap on how many can be issued each year. What it does require is substantial, well-organized evidence: awards, media coverage, high-profile roles, or a record of significant contributions others in the field would recognize.
Because approval depends entirely on how the evidence is framed, the strength of an O-1 case is built long before it's filed — deciding which achievements matter most and how to present them clearly to an adjudicator who may not be familiar with the field.
