E-2 Treaty Investor Visas: Investing to Build a Business
For entrepreneurs from treaty countries, the E-2 offers a renewable path to live in the U.S. while actively running a business.
The E-2 is available to nationals of countries that hold a qualifying treaty with the United States, and it's built around active investment β starting or acquiring a real, operating U.S. business, not a passive investment.
There's no fixed minimum investment amount, but the investment has to be substantial relative to the type of business, and the case has to show the enterprise is more than marginal β capable of generating real income, not just supporting the investor.
Because E-2 status is renewable indefinitely as long as the business remains active, it's often used as a long-term platform for entrepreneurs building something they intend to grow, not just a temporary work authorization.
